An IIBA CBAP or CCBA certification is valid for three years from the date of issue. In order to maintain it beyond this period, the certified person must carry out a business analysis activity that is evaluated according to a CDU (Continuing Development Units) system. Every three years, the certifier must prove to IIBA an activity equivalent to 60 CDUs (for more details, see the official IIBA guide). This re-certification system aims to:

• keep up to date on developments in the Business Analyst business
• promote the Business Analyst profession by encouraging participation, practice and development.

IIBA Geneva issues certificates of CDUs in order to facilitate the process of re-certification of CBAP or CCBA certifiers who participate in activities organized by the chapter. CDUs are organized into several categories, with each having a maximum quota (for more details, see the official IIBA guide). Certificates are sent automatically according to the following rules:

• follow-up of a workshop, conference or study group: 1 CDU per hour (category Professional Development sub-category Chapter Meetings and Events, maximum of 30 CDUs over 3 years for this category).
• moderator of a workshop, conference or study group: 10 CDUs per event (category Professional Activities sub-category Speaker/Instructor on business analysis at a conference, symposium, workshop, formal course or IIBA® chapter meeting, maximum of 30 CDUs over 3 years for this category).
• facilitator of a workshop, conference or study group: 5 CDUs per event (category Professional Activities sub-category Member/Moderator of panel discussion on business analysis at a conference, symposium, workshop or formal course, maximum of 30 CDUs over 3 years for this category).
• live follow-up of an IIBA International webinar: 1 CDU per hour (category Professional Development sub-category Other events, maximum of 30 CDUs over 3 years for this category).
• follow-up of a recording of an IIBA International webinar: 1 CDU per hour (category Self Directed Learning, maximum of 15 CDUs over 3 years for this category).
• participation as a volunteer in the IIBA Geneva board or for any other work carried out by IIBA Geneva: 1 CDU (category Volunteer Service,maximum of 30 CDUs over 3 years for this category). Members of the IIBA Geneva board receive a bonus of 10 CDUs (category Volunteer Service) per year.
